MISSION: The Mission of the Community Engagement Office is to move parents and our community to become more informed and actively involved.
We, Flor Amaro and Michael Simmons, would like to share our excitement about being here and being able to continue to serve you during the 2009-2010 school year.
We are here to support the vision, mission and objectives of DPS by providing a high level of service and consultation to DPS parents, staff and community members.
Our charge as Community Specialists is as follows:
Support the:
- Parent Empowerment council (PEC);
- Collaborative School Committees (CSC);
- Parent Engagment and ledership development;and
- Assist in the areas of community relations/crisis response/diversity
It is our intention to energize parents, staff, the community and local business leaders to share responsibility for improving student achievement through a host of student improvement strategies. To be able to support their efforts and in response to CSC 2003-2004 evaluation suggestions for future training, we offer the following services:
- Coordinate Collaborative School Committee Training and Development and publish materials that would assist the CSCs in doing their work effectively, and support with recruitment
- Assist the formation of the new Parent Empowerment Council
- Provide technical assistance to the Education Advisory Councils
- Create a two-way flow of information via community meetings, and forums
- Support the alignment of parent and community work to focus on best educational practices in the implementation of School Improvement Plans (SIP)
