Stakeholders' Summit

 

On Saturday, August 23rd, this task force held a Stakeholders' Summit organized by two active DPS parents, Fran Smith-James and Cathy Roper.  This Summit was attended by over 150 people including principals, teachers, parents and community members in addition to Mayor Hickenlooper and the DPS Superintendent, Dr. Jerry Wartgow.    This group was broken into 13 smaller groups to brainstorm on the following parent involvement questions:

1.       What is currently happening in schools that encourage parents to feel empowered?

2.       What are the barriers to greater participation by parents in their children’s education?

      - including parents who:

w        are economically disadvantaged

w        have disabilities

w        have limited English proficiency

w        have limited literacy

w        are of any racial or ethnic minority background                        

w        are parents of migratory children
