Study Tips for Successful Students

Improving study habits will take time, but the sooner you start, the sooner you will see huge improvements! Studying is an acquired skill. It is a combination of being a good listener in class, asking questions on material not understood, doing homework and assigned studies, and reviewing regularly.

Select a spot at home with a flat work surface and good light.
Find a quiet place to study.
Turn off the music and television.
Try to avoid distractions.
Study in the same location every night to improve your organization.
Starting homework at the same time everyday may improve your organization.
Have materials like paper, pens, pencils, rulers, and calculators nearby.
Make academics the top priority! Put off any activity if you have homework.
Get enough sleep.
Eat balanced, healthy meals.
Take short, five-minute breaks. Get up and walk around or stretch.
Participate in class.
When other students ask questions in class, pay attention.
Don't let bad grades frustrate you to the point of quitting.
If you need help, do not be afraid to receive assistance before/after
school.
